Announcement: Council News in Winston County

Arts Council of Smith Lake

Updates, Council changes and a new direction for SmithLakeArts.com

To the Membership of the Arts Council of Smith Lake and to interested parties...

As of November 2008 Barbara Lawson, Opening Charter Member and Executive Director for 2007 & 2008 completed her first year of directorship and has resigned from the current Board of Directors of the Arts Council of Smith Lake. "I have truly enjoyed all the wonderful events and accomplishments that our board and membership worked so hard on, and made possible by their enthusiasm! Thank you to all who have made the Arts Council of Smith Lake a great success!" The annual financial report is available upon request. Annual Budget growth for our first year approached the goal of $27,000.00. Congratulations!

Barbara will be staying in the Smith Lake Area and will develop a new direction for the Smith Lake Arts websites. She hopes to reinstate a local Arts program for Smith Lake residents on a finer focus, with the concentration on Visual Arts and Promotion of Artist in the Tri-County Lakes Regions. Support for the newly named Winston County Arts Council will continue, providing cooperative efforts for all the arts in the region. She will also continue ownership, new development and management of the previously formed websites:  http://www.smithlakearts.com/ and http://www.lakewatermagazine.com/ . Look For the LakeWater News on local news stands soon!

As the new Regional Brand Builder and Advertising/Marketing Executive for            www.LocalAdLinks.com, a national online advertising company, Barbara will enhance the internet media options for Northern Alabama, Georgia and Northwest Florida. She has renewed her Ceramics Pottery work and has her pottery on exhibit and for sale online at www.lakewatermagazine.com , plus in local stores ... the first one is ‘The Candle Garden’ in Cullman, Alabama listed at www.smithlakearts.com and listed below. "I love the Coastal and Lakes Regions and hope to continue to help our community with artful and healthful 'Fine Living, News and Events'! Thank you!"

The current Board of the Arts Council of Smith Lake has made a change and a split with the name plus the focus of their efforts in Winston County, Alabama. The board has created a new council named Winston County Arts Council to provide additional inclusion of the northern county regions not on Smith Lake. They are providing programs for theater and started additional programs for the schools in Double Springs and Haleyville, Alabama. Chairman of the Board is JD Snoddy.

Due to the immense amount of possibilities in the arts in the Northern Alabama regions, and after changes of focus with the current Board of Directors of the Arts Council of Smith Lake, Barbara will not be an active member of the current board of directors, however she will maintain her current annual membership and help out where possible.

A New Smith Lake Arts Focus will be developed and continue the support of Arts Programs in Arley, Alabama and the Meek Schools. She will look for additional art projects in the Smith Lake area. If you have any questions about the past Arts Council of Smith Lake, Please call Barbara at 256.747.8831. email: pictowaves@aol.com

To contact the newly named 'Winston County Arts Council' contact person is JD Snoddy, Interim Chairman of the Board at 205.489.6569 or 205.489.2826. Please call JD with questions about your prior membership and for upcoming schedules and meetings. Thank you!

"My extensive background in Oil Painting and Watercolor has influenced my decisions about the application of the glazes that I use. Just as you can find art in nature, you can find many designs made by my unique glazes. I use the surfaces of each vessel as a canvas on which I create an abstract expression of my thoughts, ideas, and visions about life."
